Program Description:
The purpose of Welding Skill Training at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology is to teach the welding techniques & manipulative skills required for each major welding process. Welding technique is stressed above welding theory – as the students must be able to meet the welding performance demands of industry. Consequently, a minimum amount of course time (10% to 20%) is spent on book & classroom study. The remaining time is used for supervised welding practice.
Students may take courses to develop skill in one major process – or to achieve broad welding skills, may take courses as in a program of study.
Combination Structural and Pipe Welding: 36-week, 1260 clock hours. This sequence of courses is recommended for the student interested in the major welding processes (Symbols & Blueprint Reading, Stick, Tig, Mig, & Flux) in all positions on plate & pipe. Successful completion of this course gives the necessary welding skills required for employment as a Combination Welder.
